June Darkow, age 85, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2015, at Oak Park Place.
She was born on June 19, 1930, in Milwaukee, the daughter of Orrin and Aldeen (Bodendorfer) Hammetter. She graduated from Cedarburg High School and married her high school sweetheart, Glenn Darkow, on Nov. 7, 1953.
While Glenn was serving in the U.S. Navy, they moved to Washington, D.C., where June worked as a stenographer for the judge advocate general of the U.S. Navy at the Pentagon. June enjoyed bowling and working in her yard, was an amazing cook and her family was her life.
June also enjoyed walking with Glenn at East Towne Mall for 20 years. June is survived by her husband, Glenn; son, Bruce (Debbie) Darkow; grandchildren, Brian Darkow, Allen (fiancée Kayla) Darkow and DeAnna (Scott) Russell; great-grandson, Cody; and brother, Gerry Hammetter. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Carole Jean Darkow, and sister-in-law, Lorraine Hammetter.
A memorial service was held at Gunderson East Funeral Home, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, on Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2015. Burial next to her family, took place at Immanuel Cemetery. Online condolences may be made to
