John H. McNamara, 86, entered eternal life Saturday, Sept.19, 2015.
He was born April 28, 1929, in Detroit to the late James and Margaret (nee Carroll) McNamara. After graduating from De LaSalle High School, John earned a bachelorís degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Detroit and then a masterís degree from the University of Michigan.
After college, John enlisted in the U.S. Navy and completed officer training school. He served in the Navy for eight years as a lieutenant. John also taught at the U.S. Naval Academy for four years. John continued to serve in the Naval Reserve and was honorably discharged in 1970.
Johnís engineering career included employment at Chrysler Missile in Detroit, DuPont in Delaware, Schlitz Brewing in Milwaukee and, after Schlitz was purchased by Strohís Brewing, he worked for Strohís in Detroit until his retirement. He then moved to South Carolina to enjoy his retirement.
Johnís memory will be cherished by his wife, Dotty; two daughters, Kathleen (Alan) Olsen of Germantown and Lynne (Scott) Wilson of Middleton; two grandsons, Dan and Ted Wilson of Middleton; mother of Kathleen, Karen and Lynne, Irene McNamara; six stepchildren, Vicki Brogna, Rhonda Gutherie, Heidi Gutherie, Scott Gutherie, Walker Gutherie and William Guido; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen McNamara; his second wife, Marjorie; and his two sisters, Francis Carter and Margaret Mary Burr.
A memorial service in remembrance of John will be held 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, at the Myrhum-Patten Funeral Home (1315 W. Washington St., West Bend). The family will greet relatives and friends at the funeral home Friday from 2 p.m. until the time of service.
