James F. Horton, 92
James F. “Jim” Horton, 92, of West Bend, passed away Sunday, Sept. 27, 2015, at The Kathy Hospice of West Bend. He was born in February 1923, in West Allis to Lisle and Gocia (nee DeMallie) Horton. He was a graduate of the Class of 1941 from West Allis Central and the Class of 1950 from Carrol College. Jim was a B17 pilot in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He achieved the rank of Captain and later served in the Air National Guard. Jim married Arlene Surprise on Aug. 20, 1944, in Roswell, New Mexico. Jim was a self-employed sales representative and a proprietor of Plaza Motel in Dickeyville.
Jim is survived by his wife of 71 years, Arlene; his children, Lon (Louise), Deborah McClellan and Cindy (Steven) Plautz; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Jim is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and son-in-law, Bruce McClellan. A funeral service will be held at noon Thursday, Oct. 1, 2015, at the Phillip Funeral Home Chapel (1420 W. Paradise Drive, West Bend). Visitation will be held at the funeral home Thursday, Oct. 1, 2015, from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to The Kathy Hospice of West Bend (3232 Pleasant Valley Road, West Bend, WI 53095).
