Audrey C. Arnold, 91

Audrey C. Arnold, 91, of Rice Lake, died at Heritage Manor on Oct. 10, 2015, almost exactly a year after the death of her husband, Lester.

Audrey was born Dec. 10, 1923, in Wauwatosa to Arthur and Anita Remmel. Audrey was a graduate of the Wauwatosa High School class of 1942. She grew up in the same house in Wauwatosa until her marriage to Lester on Sept. 20, 1947. She met Les at the Eagle’s Ballroom in Milwaukee following his discharge from the Army. Including their engagement, they were together 68 years and counting.

They had two children, Wayne (Sandy) Arnold of Rice Lake and Meredith Arnold of Mayville, and are survived by two grandchildren, Catherine (Brian) Buckland of Norwood, Massachusetts, and David (Michelle) Arnold of San Francisco. Married life took them to West Allis, then several cities in Michigan, where they made and retained many friends. They settled in West Bend in 1964, where they lived for 37 years amidst many friends on 16th Ave., before moving to Rice Lake in 2001.

In addition to being a wife and mother, Audrey was a secretary at St. Joseph’s Hospital in West Bend for 21 years. Audrey was very social all her life, maintaining relationships since junior high, making later hearing loss a tough blow. Audrey was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and loyal friend, and bore her late-life afflictions with grace and a smile. Audrey was predeceased by two brothers, Robert and Donald.

Church services for both Lester and Audrey will be 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25, at Trinity Lutheran Church in West Bend. The ashes of Audrey and Lester will be combined and buried as one at 9 a.m. Monday, Oct. 26, at Washington County Memorial Park, West Bend.

The family wishes to thank the great staff at Heritage Manor and the many Rice Lake neighbors who helped in her final years. Memorials may be made to Rice Lake Golden K Park Bench Project, P.O. Box 452, Rice Lake, WI 54868. Lester and Audrey were partners in life, and in death.
