Richard N. Koller, 77
Aug. 6, 1938 ó Oct. 27, 2015
Richard N. Koller was born to eternal life Oct. 27, 2015, surrounded by his children in West Bend.
Richard was born Aug. 6, 1938, to Ludwig and Aleda (nee Bauer) Koller. He grew up in West Bend above Bauerís Tap (more recently Klinerís). He attended Holy Angels Catholic School and graduated from West Bend High School in 1956. He attended the University of Wisconsin for two years.
He was in the National Guard from 195964 where he met Joe Breuer, who later introduced him to the love of his life, Delores Breuer. They fell in love and were married three short months later in September 1963.
Delores was the center of his life and they were inseparable from the beginning. They played sheepshead and bridge with friends and relatives. They loved the outdoors, walking, biking and cross-country skiing. They loved exploring state parks and, later in life, traveling to new destinations. They were also life-long members of Holy Angels Catholic Church.
Family was always the most important thing to Richard. He spent countless hours playing basketball in the driveway or throwing the baseball with his children. He coached all of his kids in baseball and was inspirational in the lives of many of the kids he coached through the years. After coaching he remained involved in athletics and never missed a single sporting event for any of his children.
When he found time for himself he played volleyball, basketball and softball. He also coached softball, refereed volleyball and ran the menís open gym basketball night for years. For 30 years he walked to and from the Gehl Co., uphill both ways, in snow, sleet and rain, retiring in 2000. Many people have seen him around town for years ó he was the guy who always waved and said hello to people passing by. He married Annette Stockhausen in 2001. His later years were spent with his family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Delores, in 1999; his parents, Ludwig and Aleda Koller; and his brother, Wilbert Koller.
He is survived by his children, Karen (John) Sauer, Robert (Jackie), Kathy (Randy) Handel and Kelly (Tony) Barth; and 12 grandchildren, Lauren (Lee) Brekke, Michael Handel, Connor, Sam, Mary Kate, Forrest, Kallynn Sauer, Lisa and Erica Koller, and Hayden, Nicholas and Bennett Barth. He is further survived by his sister, Darleen (Ron) Rose.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, 2015, at Holy Angels Catholic Church in West Bend with the Rev. Gerald Brittain presiding. The family will greet relatives and friends Thursday at the church only from 5-6:45 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Friends of Autism or Holy Angels Church are appreciated.
