Stephen J. Gruber, 73, died on Veteran’s Day, Nov. 11, 2015, in Charleston, South Carolina. He was born Aug. 6, 1942, to Roman J. and Elise A. (nee Riesch) Gruber at St. Joseph’s Community Hospital, West Bend. He graduated from West Bend High School, in 1960.
Stephen joined the US Army in 1960 and retired as a Chief Warrant Officer (CW2) in 1980. He was a Vietnam War veteran, serving two tours in Vietnam.
He was a longtime Alaskan resident, retiring from the Alaska Marine Highway System in 2000. He moved to Florida in 2001.
Steve was an
avid fisherman, traveler and family genealogist. Stephen is survived by
his son, John Gruber; his sisters and brother, Susan (William) Hodges,
Mary Miller, James Gruber and Teresa “Terri” (Ralph) Miller; and many
nieces, nephews, relatives and friends, including his traveling
companion and close friend of several years, Jean McKinney.
