Adeline Ashman passed away peacefully with her family by her side Dec. 17, 2015, at Brookdale Assisted Living in Appleton. Addie was born March 6, 1924, in Allenton. She was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Rose (Ritger) Johann. After graduating from West Bend High School, Addie obtained a business degree from Marquette University. In 1945, she married Robert Ashman, also from West Bend.
For the next 39 years, Addie and Bob owned and operated the Ashman Greenhouses on the corner of Ninth and Hickory Street. Addie and Bob were completely devoted to each other for the 70 years they were married. They maintained a huge garden in their backyard and had fresh vegetables all summer long. They loved to travel, dance and play bridge. When the children still lived at home they all enjoyed heading out to Big Cedar Lake to spend the day on their sailboat. Addie is survived by her loving husband, Bob; her children, Nicolas (Karen) Ashman, Nancy Ashman and Rosemary (Robert) Kreider; grandsons, Scott Kreider and Jonathan (Libby) Kreider; and great-grandson, Eli Kreider.
Addie was preceded in death by her parents and her two brothers, Willard Johann and Orlando Johann. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2015, at Holy Angels Catholic Church (138 N. Eighth Ave., West Bend) with the Rev. Jerry Repenshek presiding. Visitation will be from 10-10:45 a.m. Interment will follow at Washington County Memorial Park.
Addie’s family would like to thank the staff at Brookdale Assisted Living and the Heartland Hospice staff for the compassionate care they provided to Addie and the support they provided her family. A memorial fund is being established, which will benefit the Alzheimer’s Association.
