Fanchon B. Smith (nee Marcell), of West Bend died Sunday, Jan. 3, at the age of 86.
She was born April 24, 1929, in Wausau to the late Harold and Elizabeth Marcell. She married James W. Smith on May 14, 1955, at St. Mary’s Church, Wausau.
Fan graduated from Wausau High School in 1947 and later received a B.A. degree from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. Before she retired in 1990, she taught remedial reading at Badger Middle School and both coached and judged forensics.
Her family was “the love of her life.” She also enjoyed writing and self-published four books: “The Little People on the Hill,” “Recollections of the Past,” “Grandma’s Little Secrets” and “Pursuit of a Dream.”
She was a member of the Christian Women of St. Frances Cabrini, served as secretary for the Parish Library Board and obtained the Level of Friendship in Women of the Moose.
Survivors includes her husband, Jim; children, Randy (Deb) Smith, Jean (Pete) Sekula, Jerry Smith, Carla (Todd) Rabe and Dave (Karen) Smith; grandchildren, Taylor, Maggie, Kaila, Ally, Brittany, Ashley, Matt, Tony and Emily; and sister, Mary (George) Guenther. She was preceded in death by two sisters and seven brothers.
Visitation will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, at St Frances Cabrini (1025 S. Seventh Ave., West Bend) with a Mass at noon.
