Mary Magdalene Windis, 90 Mary Magdalene (Thelen) Windis, 90, passed away peacefully at Serenity Villa in Slinger on Jan. 17, 2016. She was a wonderful mother of 12 children and will be dearly missed.

Mary was born in Milwaukee on Sept. 18, 1925, to Nick and Lena (Borst) Thelen. She graduated from Messmer High School and the La Crosse Teacherís College with a degree in education and physical fitness, and taught classes in both Port Washington and West Bend.

In 1948, Mary married John M. Windis (deceased 2013). They lived in Madison and then Milwaukee for six years, until they made their home in Port Washington. Mary was a master bridge player. She also enjoyed golf, entertaining, traveling, swimming, tennis, reading, knitting, shopping and sewing. During her lifetime, she was active in her church, Girl Scouts and numerous charitable activities.

She is survived by 10 of her children, Katherine Windis of Sun City, Arizona, Judith Hill of St. Petersburg, Florida, Carol (Tom) Schneider of Oconomowoc, Jennifer (Bob) Heth of Winona, Minnesota, John (Mary) Windis of Oshkosh, Deborah (John) McNaughton of Milwaukee, Joan Windis (Gary) Simonsen of Racine, Mary (Mark) Adams of Canistota, South Dakota, Patricia (Ron) Neu of Kewaskum, and Roberta (Max) Bailey of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; 21 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. In addition, Mary is survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Mary was preceded in death by her ex-husband, John Windis; her son, Daniel Windis; her daughter, Jean (Windis) Jacque; her brother, Arthur Thelen; sister, Gertrude (Thelen) Plum; and sisters-in-law, Katherine (Windis) Pretschold and Anna (Aigner) Uselding.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 21, at St. Frances Cabrini (1025 S. Seventh Ave., West Bend) with the Rev. Enrique Hernandez officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30-10:15 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 21, at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Arc of the United States (ARC of Washington County P.O. Box 832, West Bend, WI 53095-0832) would be appreciated.
