Gerald ‘Jerry’ Bowen, 68
In the early morning of Jan. 26, 2016, Jerry passed away peacefully. His final days were spent surrounded by family and friends at the Lawless Family Hospice. Taken too soon at the age of 68, Jerry is finally at rest after an exhausting battle with cancer.
Jerry was born on July 5, 1947, to Vincent and Lillian Bowen. He will be remembered as a devoted husband to Dorothy (nee Ellie); loving father to Carrie (Robert) Britt, Chad (Melina) Bowen and Jennifer (Ryan) Bernardi; and silly Papa to his seven grandchildren, Nicholas, Alex, Chris, Miles, Harper, Etta and Violet. He was also a caring brother to his sister, Diane Bowen, and his many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Bowen, and sisters, Connie and Geraldine.
Jerry dedicated 45 years to Johnson Controls, where he worked as an engineer designing and processing batteries. His life was spent enjoying woodworking, traveling and playing cards with friends, and spending time with his family. Jerry was generous with his time as a father and grandfather. He was a Scout leader, a tee-ball coach and always a proud audience member at every concert, ceremony or performance. He had a special talent for fixing things and shared his knowledge and wisdom with all of us. When we think about Jerry, it is his wit and sense of humor that we will remember most. Jerry always made us laugh and he will forever be in our hearts.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, Jan. 30, 2016, at Pilgrim United Church of Christ, 1621 Second Ave., Grafton at 3 p.m. Family will receive friends at the church from 1 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials of your choice are appreciated.
