Joan E. Sutter (nee Chapman), 95, of St. Therese in New Hope, Minnesota, formerly of West Bend, passed away Friday, Feb. 5, 2016.
She was born Jan. 27, 1921, in Cairo to the late Professor Henry and Gladys (nee Chandler) Chapman. At the age of 5, she came to the United States from England on the ship HMS Aquitania on Feb. 12, 1926.
She attended Michigan State University where she met her husband. She was united in marriage to Robert J. Sutter on Oct. 23, 1943. Robert passed away May 8, 1999.
Joan was a member and past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed playing bridge and shopping.
She was the beloved wife of the late Robert J. Sutter; fond sister of Dudley (the late Sally) Chapman; loving mother of Robert K. (Donna) Sutter, John W. “Bill” (Judy) Sutter and Beverly (Thomas) Gale; dear grandmother of Robert W. (Brenda) Sutter, James B. (Kelly) Sutter, Kristin (Darrel) Noel, Vicki (Bryan) Mueller and Lori (Cody) Cunningham; and great-grandmother of 17. She is further survived by many other relatives and friends. Funeral services in remembrance of Joan will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10, at the Myrhum Patten Miller & Kietzer Funeral Home (1315 W. Washington St., West Bend). Burial will follow at Washington County Memorial Park, West Bend. The family will greet relatives and friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday at the funeral home.
