Earl Ray “Nobby” Knop, 89, of Leesburg, Florida, passed away Feb. 8, 2016, with his family at his side at the Leesburg Regional Medical Center.
Earl was born Aug. 3, 1926, in West Bend, the son of the late Otto and Anna (nee Moll) Knop.
When he turned 17, Earl joined the United States Navy and served honorably during World War II.
On Nov. 29, 1952, he was united in marriage to Fay Zilke. Fay preceded Earl in death June 30, 2010. In addition to his wife and parents, his brother, John Knop, and his sister, Bernice Knop, preceded him in death.
Earl was an auto mechanic in West Bend during his working career. In 1986, Earl retired to Leesburg with his wife.
Those Earl leaves behind to cherish his memory include two children, Sue (John) Zabinski of West Bend and Steve (Nancy) Knop of Coon Rapids, Minnesota; four grandchildren, Carrie (fiance Kevin Ellingson) Emerson, Lisa Zabinski, Michael Knop and Christine (Danny) Reed; and six great-grandchildren, Seth and Kain Emerson, Aiden and Roman Ellingson, and Lydia and Tim Reed.
Being a member of the “Greatest Generation,” Earl was a lifelong member of the American Legion. He also was a longtime member of the Moose.
Earl enjoyed watching baseball and football games, bowling and an occasional boat ride. He loved to travel and treasured his visits to Hawaii with his wife.
Earl will be laid to rest with his wife at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.
