R. Gavin, 88
Joyce R. Gavin (nee Stern), 88, of Kewaskum, passed away Thursday, Feb. 25, 2016, at Kettle Moraine Gardens in Kewaskum with her loving family by her side.
She was born Oct. 2, 1927, in West Bend, the daughter of the late Edward and Lorilla (nee Schacht) Stern. On June 9, 1948, she was united in marriage to Robert “Gabby” Gavin at Holy Angels Catholic Church in West Bend. Gabby preceded Joyce in death July 20, 1995.
Joyce and Gabby were blessed with eight children — four boys and four girls. They began raising their family in Kewaskum, later moving to Fillmore and then back to Kewaskum. Joyce was mainly a homemaker who loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Some of her grandchildren remember her as “The Cookie Grandma.” Joyce loved the Milwaukee Brewers, Green Bay Packers and her favorite NASCAR driver was Jimmy Johnson No. 48.
Those Joyce leaves behind to cherish her memory include seven children, Joan (Dan “Boon”) Buddenhagen of Campbellsport, Nancy (Roland) Anderson of Sheboygan, Russ (Susie) Gavin of Slinger, Gary (Linda) Gavin of Kewaskum, Karen (Lee) Stuver of Fond du Lac, Craig (Jean) Gavin of Kewaskum and Roger (Tracey) Gavin of Fillmore; 16 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Doris Schladweiler of Kewaskum; a special friend, Mary Marquart of Kewaskum; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husband of 47 years, Robert, Joyce was preceded in death by a daughter, Geraldine; a grandson, Daniel Anderson; an infant brother, Lloyd; and three brothers-in-law, Sylvester “Rusty” Schladweiler, Bill (Polly) Gavin and Jim (Marion) Gavin.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Joyce will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church (331 Main St., Kewaskum). The Rev. Edwin Kornath will officiate and burial will follow the service in the parish cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call at the church Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. until the time of Mass.
