Benno J. Gitter, 89 Benno J. Gitter of West Bend died Saturday, March 5, 2016, at the Waterford of West Bend at the age of 89. He was born Nov. 17, 1926, in St. Kilian to the late Joseph and Kunigunda (nee Schraufnagel) Gitter.

On June 9, 1948, he was united in marriage to Lorraine Bettendorf at St. Michaelís Catholic Church in St. Michaelís. Lorraine predeceased Jan. 9, 2004.

Towards the end of World War II, Benno was drafted into the United States Army. Following his discharge, he returned to the West Bend area.

He owned and operated a landscaping business, and was also employed at John Deere in Horicon and the West Bend Co. For many years, he also took care of the property at Bank One and National Exchange Bank in West Bend.

Benno enjoyed spending time outdoors. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and snowmobiling.

Survivors include nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Roman, Arnold, Felix, Clements and Alvin, and one sister, Edna Roos.

Funeral services will be 7 p.m. Thursday, March 10, at the Schmidt Funeral Home in West Bend. Entombment will be 10 a.m. Friday, March 11, at Wisconsin Memorial Park in Brookfield. Visitation will be from 4-6:45 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
