Alita A. Berling (nee Hartwig), 95, of Hartford, passed away Tuesday, April 5, 2016, at The Waterford in Hartford.
Alita born in the town of Saukville on Oct. 24, 1920, to Albert and Hilda (nee Stoecker) Hartwig. She was united in marriage to Arthur O. Berling on April 5, 1941, in McGregor, Iowa.
Alita was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, Hartford. She was a member of the Ladies Mission Society at Peace Lutheran and also a member of the Hartford Doers.
She is survived by her loving children, Gary Berling of Hartford and Barbara (Allen) Rothman; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy (Leland) Shultz of West Bend; a brother, Albert (Agnes) Hartwig of Jackson; and sisters-in-law, Ilma Hartwig of Cedarburg and Ruth Berling of Milwaukee. She is further survived by other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Arthur; her daughter-in-law, Karen Berling; a son-in-law, Lyle Polzin; sisters, Viola at infancy, Alma (Gustav) Beimborn, Eleanor (Bob) Merrik, Elfrieda (Gilbert) Benicke and Mildred (Don) Ulik; and her brother, Henry Hartwig.
Funeral services for Alita were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 9, at Peace Lutheran Church (1001 Peace Lutheran Drive, Hartford). The Rev. Jeremy Husby officiated. The family greeted relatives and friends Saturday at the church from 9-10:30 a.m.
Interment is in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hartford.
