Bernice G. Mayer, 95 Bernice G. Mayer, nee Miller, formerly of Newburg, died peacefully Wednesday, April 13, 2016, at the Cedar Lake Health and Rehabilitation Center at the age of 95. She was born Nov. 18, 1920, in Manitowoc to the late Frank and Frances (nee Zeltinger) Miller. At an early age, her family moved to the Newburg area.

On June 7, 1941, she was united in marriage to Gilbert V. Mayer at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Newburg. Gilbert predeceased Sept. 11, 2001.

Throughout her 95 years of life, Bernice touched many hearts. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, proud grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. Bernice was an avid baker. Her homemade breads, kuchens, cinnamon rolls and cookies were trademarks of hers. Her cookie jar was always full. Her strength, kindness and love for her family were recognized by many. Her contagious smile will be remembered by all who knew her.

She was a longtime member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Newburg, where she was also a member of the Christian Women’s Confraternity.

She will be greatly missed by her family. Her survivors include seven children, Jerry (Mary Ellen Dodge) of West Bend, Sharon (Conrad) Fischer of West Bend, Kathy (Richard) Pierce of Montgomery, Alabama, Judy Austin of West Bend, Danny (Carol) of Newburg, Tom (Connie) of Newburg and Mary (Bill) Chesak of Newburg; 18 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren, with two on the way; two great-great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one son Gilbert Jr., “Gib”; one daughter-in-law, Annie Mayer; and one grandson, Mark Mayer.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 19 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Newburg with the Rev. Kevin Kowalske presiding. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends at the church from 1-2:45 p.m. Tuesday Bernice’s family would like to extend a sincere and heartfelt thank you to the staff at Cedar Lake Health Care Center, especially those on Silverbrook for their loving care, compassion and friendship.
