Donald J. Goniu, 89
Donald J. Goniu entered into Eternal Life on April 20, 2016, at the age of 90 years, minus 37 days. Resident of Mequon. Beloved husband for 64 years of Carolie M. Goniu (nee Styne). Loving father of Kevin (Eileen) Goniu, Paul (Doreen) Goniu and Virginia (Nick) Seebantz. Proud grandfather of Matthew (Jeanette), Lindsey (Damon) Ashley, Natalie, Rachael, Brian and Katherine (Robb) Conlon. Dear brother of the late Burton (Constance) Goniu. Further survived by other relatives and dear friends.
Don celebrated life to the fullest! His love for his family, his business, his garden and the city of Mequon set a shining example to those around him. Don served as a master sergeant in the Army during World War II. He volunteered in the city of Mequon, serving as an alderman on the first Common Council, (when Mequon incorporated into a city), School Board member, chairman of the Blue Ribbon Committee during the time of the “sewer wars,” a member of the Economic Development Board, the original Open Space Committee, the Visioning Committee and the 50th Anniversary Committee. Don was president of the Mequon Men’s Club, Scout Master of Troop 44 of the Boy Scouts of America and a board member of the Mequon Historical Society. He also served as president and director on the boards of the Hobby Industry of America and the Bicycle Wholesale Distributors Association. Don was a member of the Wisconsin Alumni Association, Cudworth Post, Jabberwocs and the Mequon Dance Club, of which he was a founding member and the club’s first president. He was a former member of Ozaukee Country Club.
Don’s family would like to thank Home Helpers and Horizon Hospice for their care, attention and compassion shown over these past months.

Visitation will be held Saturday, April 30, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Lumen Christi Catholic Church, 2700 W. Mequon Road, at the intersection of North Range Line Road, Mequon, followed by the celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Entombment at Wisconsin Memorial Park Cemetery will be private for the family.
