Dr. James A. Schimp, 84

Cherished by family, friends and generations of patients, Dr. James A. Schimp of Hartford was welcomed into the eternal arms of his lord and savior Jesus Christ on April 29, 2016. His faith in Jesus Christ, whom he loved and served, was the foundation that inspired him to serve the Hartford area community for more than 55 years. He was loved by all and known for his warm smile, compassion, optimism, love for people and chiropractic expertise. He touched countless lives with hope for physical healing and spiritual encouragement.
James Alex Schimp was born in Milwaukee on Jan. 2, 1932, the son of Alex and Mary Schimp. July 9, 1955, was the beginning of a 53-year love story when he married Shirley Markiewicz. James graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic in 1958 and then returned to Wisconsin where he started a career that would last for more than a half-century. Dr. Schimp’s professional accomplishments in the area of chiropractic were widespread and influenced many through his business, Schimp Office of Chiropractic in Hartford.
Dr. Schimp is survived by his five children, the Rev. Jeff and Becky Schimp of Hartford, Jamie and the Rev. Eldon Featheringill of Boise, Idaho, Brian “BJ” and Marcia Schimp of Ellison Bay, Dr. David and Nancy Schimp of Slinger, and Lindy and Matt Fiste of Hartford; 20 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three brothers-inlaw, Wendell (Jean) Markiewicz of Minnesota, Robert (Donna) Markiewicz of Tomahawk, and Eugene (Diane) Markiewicz of Oostburg. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Dr. Schimp was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife, Shirley (2008).
Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Friday evening, May 6, at the Shimon Funeral Home in Hartford. A celebration of Dr. Schimp’s life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 7, at Glacier Hills Bible Church (meeting at Central Middle School). All are invited. The service will be officiated by eldest son, the Rev. Jeff Schimp of Glacier Hills Bible Church where Dr. Schimp worshipped. A private burial for the family will follow.
The family wishes to thank the ICU and third floor doctors, nurses and staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital of West Bend.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Glacier Hills Bible Church (Hartford), Grace Bible College (Wyoming, Michigan), Northern Grace Youth Camp (Gillett) or the Door County Land Trust.
