Dorothy R. Stortz, 96, of Mayville, passed away Monday, May 9, 2016, at Crossroads Nursing Home in Mayville.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 14, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Mayville, with the Rev. Father Tom Biersack celebrating the Mass. A visitation will also be held Saturday from 9-10 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church. Burial will take place at St. Mary Cemetery in Mayville.

Dorothy was born April 27, 1920, in LeRoy to Philip and Rosa Adelia (Oechsner) Liegl. She was united in marriage to Balthasar “Walter” Stortz on May 25, 1946, in Juneau. Dorothy was employed by Maysteel and also Purity Cheese Co., both of Mayville. After retiring from Purity, she was head cook at St. Mary Catholic School for more than 20 years.
Dorothy was a longtime member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Mayville, where she was very active in the parish. In addition to being a great caretaker to her loving family, she will be remembered for her love of gardening, cooking and baking.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Gordon (Cathy) Stortz of Hubertus and Donna (Ace) Krueger of West Bend; her sisters, Lavern Priest and Lucille Theusch; her six cherished grandchildren, Joe Gillian, Scott Stortz, Jeff Gillian, Tim Stortz, Nicholas Stortz and Kristin Bunkelmann; 14, great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter in 1986; six sisters; and four brothers.
