June Rose Day (nee Joeckel), 88, passed away May 15, 2016. She was born Dec. 10, 1927, to Harvey and Wilma (nee Herman) Joeckel and was raised in Jackson. She graduated from West Bend High School in the class of 1945, Dodge County Normal in 1947 and earned her Bachelor of Science from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. She married Baldwin Kranz Jr. on June 4, 1949, and Arnold Day on May 5, 1997.
June was employed at County Line School, Maple Lawn, Slinger and Allenton elementary schools. She taught for more than 33 years and retired in 1992.
She was a member of New Hope UCC of Jackson, Washington County Retired Educators Association, DKG and Kettle Moraine Square Dance Club, which gave her the opportunity to dance in Germany in 1991.
June enjoyed the beauty of nature — taking hikes, bird watching and feeding, and wildflower observations. She wrote a book of bird poems and enjoyed writing poetry and reading. She loved traveling, playing cards, knitting, crocheting, luncheons with friends and, above all, family gatherings.
She is survived by her daughter, Patrice Burmeister (special friend Frank Kadinger); son, Gary Kranz (special friend Bob Bedard); daughter-in-law, Christine Kranz; grandchildren, Brigitte (Aaron) Handevidt, Brenden Burmeister, Rich (Stacy Goodwin) Kranz and Kimberly (Brett) Stauber; and great-grandchildren, Reese and Riley Handevidt, and two sets of twins, Chloe and Christina Kranz and Carter and Claire Kranz. She is further survived by other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her first husband, Baldwin Kranz Jr.; second husband, Arnold Day; son, Jeff Kranz; son-in-law, Jerry Burmeister; sister, Mae Joeckel; brother, Virgil Joeckel; and her parents.
The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, May 23, at New Hope United Church of Christ (4360 Jackson Drive, Jackson) with the Rev. James Hill presiding. The visitation will be held from 1-3 p.m. Monday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to New Hope UCC.
