Donald J. Herriges, 84

Donald J. Herriges, 84, of New Fane, was called to his heavenly home while surrounded by his family on Thursday, July 8, 2016. Donald was born on Sept. 12, 1931, to the late Mathias and Leocatia (Wilger) of St. Michaels. He attended St. Michael’s Catholic School and met his future wife at “St. Michael’s University.” He married Joyce (nee Butt) on Jan. 22, 1955 at Immanuel Lutheran town of Scott Church.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps in the Philippine Islands during the Korean War. On May 14, 2016, he went on the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight with his daughter, Lynelle Morse.
He worked for West Bend Co., Johann Plumbing and Heating until he started his own business, Don Herriges Heating and Air Conditioning, and later in life operated St. Michael’s Tavern along with his wife.
His interests included playing sheepshead, making firewood, watching the Green Bay Packers, camping, fishing, hunting and enjoying time with family and friends at Shawano Lake.
He was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church and the Kewaskum American Legion.
Those Donald leaves behind to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 61 years, Joyce; four children, James (Mary Pierce), Gayla (Dale) Maas, Thomas (Lisa), Lynelle (Martin) Morse; seven grandchildren, Randy (Kim) Narbatovics, Melisa (Chris) Winkler, Matthew, Christopher, and Patrick (Amber) Pierce, Heather (Brad) Oelhafen, Andy (Rachel) Maas; 13 great grandchildren, Morgan and Jake Denlinger, Natalie Narbatovics, William and Wade Winkler, Porter Pierce, Matthew and Zachary Oelhafen, James, Jayson, Joel, and Jakob Maas, and honorary great granddaughter Sundance Duchow; six siblings, Rita Speth, Clemence (Edith), Jerry (Fran), Kathleen (William) Muldoon, Evelyn Marshall, Andrew (Joyce); plus many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by daughter Janine Alvarez; siblings, Jerome (Rosalie), Joe (Ethel), Sylvester, Lucina Kolb, Frank (Ione), Albert (Sandra), Raymond (Arlene).
A funeral service in remembrance of Donald will be held on Tuesday, July 12, 2016, at 4 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church fellowship hall, New Fane, N665 Highway S, Kewaskum.
Family will greet relatives and friends at the fellowship hall Tuesday from 1 p.m. until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the building fund at St. John Lutheran Church, New Fane are appreciated.
