Earl J. Hilgendorf, 83

Earl J. (EJ) Hilgendorf, age 83, passed away early Thursday July 28 with family at his side, at Lawlis Family Hospice. Earl was born April 25, 1933, the son of Oscar and Esther (nee Bublitz) Hilgendorf. On June 12, 1954, he was united in marriage with Marguerite Bellin. They were blessed with five children: Debby (Dave) Balsiger, Germantown, Christi (Jim) DeLong, Mt. Pleasant, Blaine (Kay) Hilgendorf, Cedarburg, Angie (Randy) Monroe, Wind Lake and Becky (Dave) Blank, Cedarburg. He was further blessed with 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Further survived by his sister, Lois Hilgendorf, Mequon, and many relatives and friends. Earl was preceded in death by his parents and younger brother, Lester, in infancy.
An active member of Trinity Lutheran Church Freistadt, Earl served on many boards and committees, sang in the Senior Choir and directed the Male Choir. Earl founded Hilgendorf Memorials in 1969 in Grafton and was dedicated to the memorial business until his passing. For many years, he was the secretary/treasurer for the WI Monument Builders Association. Earl loved music. Since 1949, he was a dedicated member of Die Freistadt Alte Kameraden Band and the director for many years. Earl was a past chairman of the board for Milwaukee’s Germanfest.
The family received visitors on Monday, Aug. 1 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Eernisse Funeral Home, Cedarburg. A celebration of life will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 2 at 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church Freistadt. The family will receive visitors at the church from noon until the time of service.
