Walter Joseph Weyres, 92, a resident of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, passed away Monday, June 27. Walter lived at Charlotte Hall Veterans Home prior to his death.
The son of Thomas Weyres and Ida Behrens, he was born in July 1923 in Racine and grew up in West Bend. He served in the Navy during World War II, providing weather observations in the Pacific. Upon discharge, he attended Marquette and St. Louis universities, and worked for the National Weather Service in Washington, D.C., until his retirement in 1983.
He is survived by one sister, Lucille Schofield; brothers-in-law, Jack Schofield and Gerald Stoffel; and sister-in-law, Barbara Hamm Weyres. He was preceded in death by sisters Doris, Virginia, and Ruth (Stoffel) and brother Robert. He is also survived by nine nieces and eight nephews.
He was an active member of VFW Post 7757 in Upper Marlboro and the National Cactus and Succulent Society of Washington. Memorial services will be held at a later date.
