Irene R. Janous, 86

Irene R. Janous, 86, of Campbellsport, passed away Thursday, Aug. 4, 2016, at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice in Sheboygan Falls. She was born in Chilton on Nov. 25, 1929, the daughter of Otto and Lucy (Ott) Joas. Irene graduated from Campbellsport High School as class Salutatorian and worked as a secretary at Brittingham and Hixon Lumber Co. in Campbellsport. On Oct. 8, 1949, she married Leo J. Janous at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Campbellsport. Irene then worked as an in-home seamstress (sewing 58 wedding dresses — the last one for her granddaughter, Ann) and as bookkeeper for Thelen & Janous. After retiring she worked in the lunchroom at Campbellsport Public Schools. She was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church, the Christian Women and the Red Hat Ladies — the Scarlet Gems. Irene enjoyed bowling in various leagues and golfing in the women’s league and couples league at Camelot. She volunteered with the Meals on Wheels program, and enjoyed traveling — especially with the West Bend Knights of Columbus group — and playing dominos with friends and family. Irene attended as many of her grandchildren’s sporting and other events as possible and always had a picture puzzle going.

Survivors include her children, Kathryn (John) Johnson of Fond du Lac, Julie (Alan) Andrea of Lake Forest, Illinois, David (Heidi) Janous of Port Washington and Nancy (Dennis) Witkowski of Plymouth; her grandchildren, Ann (Brian) Olson, Jennifer (Jayme) Hermanns, Elizabeth (Michael) Braun, Adam (Ariel) Andrea, Giselle Andrea, Nick Janous, Allie Janous, Marshall (Mary) Witkowski, Kate Witkowski and Clare Witkowski; her great-grandchildren, Evan, Claire, Carter, Gabriel, Heath and Madeleine; her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Evelyn and Doug Uelmen of Green Bay, Andy and Pat Janous, James and Susan Janous, all of Campbellsport, and Francis and Joan Janous of Madison, South Dakota; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
