Doris A. “Dorie” Hefter (nee Bayer), 88, of Hartford, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2016, in her home at the Gardens of Hartford.
Doris was born Oct. 18, 1928, in the town of Hartford to John F. and Lillian T. (nee Klink) Bayer. She was united in marriage to Dennis P. Hefter on May 7, 1949, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church. Doris and Dennis owned and operated the Valley Tap and Allenton Service for many years. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, watching and feeding the birds, and loved to ride her bike. She liked meeting new people, and was known to be very social. She especially loved her family and spending time with them. Doris was a longtime member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church and was a member of the Allenton Auxiliary Post 483.
Doris is survived by her loving children, Robert of Hartford, James (Kathleen) of Allenton, Sharon Benson of Thiensville, Nancy (Howard Brown) Hefter of Germantown, Gary (Rosanne) of Allenton and Ronald Hefter of Allenton; cherished grandchildren, Amy (Kevin) Delaney, Rebecca (Christian) Stilp, Anne (Garry II) Baizley, Susan (Jeremy Garbisch) Hefter, Beth (Rick) Bartelt, Andy (Megan) Benson, Elissa, Aaron (Jody) Benson, Holly (Richard) Hawkins, Kyle (Tess) , Brent Schweitzer, Jessica (Ryan) Butzke, Rebecca (Eric) Ritger and Garrett Hefter; 19 cherished great-grandchildren and awaiting the arrival of two more; dear brother, Richard (friend, Jean) Bayer; and her dear siblings-in-law, Shirley and Clara Mae Bayer, Cecilia “Tootie” Hefter, Annabelle Sauer, Darlene, and Thomas (Lorraine) Hefter. She is further survived by many loved nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband of 45 years, Dennis Hefter; brothers, Russell and Gilbert Bayer; sister-in-law, Dorothy Bayer; siblings-in-law, Donald, Roman, Raymond Jr. and John Hefter, and Elizabeth (Francis) Matanear; and daughter- in-law, Anne Hefter.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Doris will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 28, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, (4886 Highway 175, Hartford, WI 53027) with the Rev. Davies Edassery officiating. Family will greet relatives and friends at church Monday from 3-5:45 p.m.
Interment in St. Peter/Paul Cemetery in Nenno.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Doris’ memory made to a cancer charity of one’s choice are greatly appreciated.
