Robert “Bob” Grant Houghton, age 90, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2016. He was born to Richard and Marjorie (nee Bleyer) Houghton on July 3, 1926, in Milwaukee. Bob attended Atwater Grade School and Shorewood High School. He joined the Navy in 1944 and served in World War II on an LST. He later attended the Chicago Art Institute and MATC. Bob married Mary Beth Knobloch in 1956 and together they had three children. He retired from Harley-Davidson, where he was a designer/draftsman.
Bob enjoyed attending concerts and movies with his wife Mary Beth. He sang with the Community Methodist Church Choir and the Ozaukee Chorus. He also played trumpet with several bands, including Lake Shore Symphonic Band; volunteered at Riveredge Nature Center; and was a member of the Mequon-Thiensville Art League.
Bob is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Beth; his children, Douglas, William (Pam) and Peggy (David) Houghton; granddaughter, Neko; sister, Barbara Hart; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Houghton. A Memorial Service will be held at Cedarburg Community United Methodist Church (W68 N563 Evergreen Blvd., Cedarburg, WI) on Wednesday, Jan. 4, at 1 p.m. with Rev. Dr. David Blackmer presiding. Visitation will be at the church from noon until the time of service.
