Rose Schmidt, 91
Doris Rose Schmidt (nee Jacklin) of Jackson passed away peacefully Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017, at St. Joseph’s Hospital at the age of 91. She was born June 1, 1925, in Richfield to the late Otto and Ella (nee Eimermann) Jacklin. Doris attended local schools, graduating from West Bend High School with the Class of 1943.
On June 27, 1945, she was united in marriage to Benjamin H. Schmidt at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Richfield. Ben predeceased April 30, 2013.
Doris enjoyed being a homemaker on the family farm in the town of Polk, bowling and playing cards. On Sunday afternoons, Ben and Doris danced at many of the area dance halls. When she wasn’t dancing, she listened to organ music and watched the Hilton Griswold Country Music TV show. After her retirement, she looked forward to playing cards with the Jackson Senior Community Group, which she did up to the time of her death.
For many years, she was a member of New Hope United Church of Christ.
Survivors include a daughter, Gail (Dan) Filzen of Onalaska, and a son, Keith of Jackson; grandchildren, Ben (Lisa) Filzen of Wauwatosa, Jon (Kelly) Kison of Victoria, Minnesota, and Nate (Michelle) Filzen of Germantown; great-grandchildren, Bennett and Jackson Filzen, and Camille and Jocelyn Kison; son-in-law, Rodney Kison of Jackson; sister-in-law, Hilda Jacklin of Richfield; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Charlotte Kison; brothers, James, Elroy, Willis and Lloyd Jacklin; and sisters-in-law, Lucille Jacklin and Holly Jacklin.
At Doris’ request, memorial services will be held at a later date with inurnment in Peace Cemetery Those who wish may give memorials to New Hope United Church of Christ or the charity of your choice.
