Tom was born the son of Edward "Adele" and Edith (Grabow) Bartelt on Nov. 14, 1939. He was united in marriage to Joyce Lehmann on Jan. 16, 1960, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Hustisford. Tom had numerous degrees in education, finishing with a master’s degree in administrative education. Tom was a lifelong educator in and out of the classroom and taught in schools until 1977. When school wasn't in session, Tom always stayed busy and found time to work for Mayville Home Improvement, Zimmel's bowling alley and Krieser Construction. After he was done teaching, Tom and his wife Joyce managed the Mayville Golf Course for more than 12 years and enjoyed the time spent on and off the golf course especially the friendships made along the way. He enjoyed golf, karaoke and, of course, the Wisconsin Badgers and Green Bay Packers. Tom also liked bird watching and the game show network. He will fondly be remembered for his kind smile and the phrase "You don't have to go home, but you can't stay here!" Tom was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Fond du Lac, a past member of the Mayville Fire Department, a member of the Dodge County Teacher's College Alumni, and also served as past-president and director of the Dodge County Tavern League.

Tom is survived by his loving wife, Joyce of Fond du Lac; his children, Todd (Shelley) Bartelt of West Bend, Chrystal (Scott Heim) Yonke of Fond du Lac and Lotti Westmoreland of Bern, Switzerland; his brothers, Jim (Marion) Bartelt of Mayville, Jan (Stella) Bartelt of Madison and Lon (Mary Jo) Bartelt of Mayville; and his five grandchildren, Nicole Suchomel, Tyler (Lindsey) Bartelt, Dylan Bartelt, Sara Yonke and Amber Yonke.
