June 6, 1938 — March 24, 2017
Patricia "Pat" (nee Taplin) Gresenz passed away March 24, 2017. She joins her husband of 28 years, Jerry, who preceded her in death in May 1988.
Pat was born June 6, 1938, to Cecil and Helen (Weber) Taplin in Menasha.
Pat grew up in Menasha, and graduated from Menasha High School in 1956.
After marrying in August 1959, Pat and Jerry moved to Manitowoc, where they had five children. In 1969, Pat and Jerry moved to Hartford, where she began working with Jerry as the bookkeeper for radio station WTKM and later as the receptionist as well. Pat thought of the staff and listeners of WTKM as part of her large extended family, which made her decision to retire from the station in 2015, after 46 years, a difficult one. During the many years she lived in Hartford, Pat also worked at the Gateway Nursing Home for 10 years, at the Super 8 Motel for five years, as well as Smith and Nephew for 10 years.
Pat was also involved with the local community. She was a Cub Scout den leader for all three of her boys, and was the Girl Scout leader for her two daughters. Pat volunteered on election day for the city of Hartford.
She was a founding member of the Jaycettes, as well as a Rotary Inner Wheel member and a Hartford Lioness. She also received the Paul Harris Fellowship from Rotary International.
Pat loved her sports teams. She was a strong supporter of high school athletics, and attended all of her children’s and many of her grandchildren’s events. She loved the Packers, Badgers and Brewers. Fall was her favorite time as there was always a football game to watch, and that always led to the Badger hockey season.
Pat and Jerry raised five loving and successful children: Jeff and Renee (Sivori) Gresenz of Mound, Minnesota; Joe (Major, U.S. Army Retired) and Kim (Berenz) Gresenz of Colgate; Pam (Gresenz) and Robert Brandt of Slinger; Polly (Gresenz) and Shane Foster of Leewood, Kansas; and James (Msgt, U.S. Air Force Retired) and Robin (Troeller) Gresenz of Hartford.
She has 17 adult grandchildren: Joe (U.S. Army Captain) and Annsley Gresenz of Portland, Oregon; Michael and Charity Gresenz of Kalamazoo, Michigan; Douglas Gresenz (Corporal, USMC) of Hartford; Caitlin and Anthony Behe of Havelock, North Carolina; Adam and Marissa Brandt of Hatley; Minka and Shane Rudman of Kansas City, Missouri; Raven Gresenz of Easley, South Carolina; Eric Brandt of Whitehall; Casey and Capt.
Benjamin Rinaldi of Dover, Delaware; Randi and Mike Gottschalk of Cambridge; Derek Gresenz (Specialist, U.S. Army) of Hartford; Elise Brandt of Oconomowoc; Devin Gresenz of Mount Horeb; Chloe Foster of Leawood, Kansas; Molly Gresenz of Livonia, Michigan; Hannah Gresenz of Hartford; and Justin Gresenz of Mound, Minnesota.
She was also blessed to have nine great-grandchildren: Isabelle, Viola and Henry Gresenz; Michael and Hailey Gresenz; James Behe; Benjamin and Daniel Rinaldi; and Elliana Brandt.
Pat was Mom, Grandma, Gma, Granny, Great-Grandma and Aunt to countless others whose lives she touched. Everyone was always welcomed in her home and always fed well.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Helen (Weber) Taplin and Cecil Taplin; her husband, Jerry; and her sister, Barb (Taplin) Passehl.
Rite of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Patricia at 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 29, at St. Kilian Catholic Church (264 State St., Hartford, WI 53027) with the Rev. David LaPlante officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends from 2-5 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
Private interment will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Hartford.
