Ronald Lee Backhaus

Ronald Lee Backhaus, 75, of Meridian, Idaho, died March 7, 2017, peacefully in his home after a long battle with cancer.

He was the son of Herbert and Sally Backhaus of Kewaskum. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1959 at the age of 18. After four years of service, he met then married his wife of 52 years, Patricia Weiss, daughter of Joseph and Verena Weiss, of West Bend. Together, they moved to Phoenix in 1966 to accept an engineering position with Motorola. They later moved to Boise, Idaho, in 1990 to further his engineering career with Micron and then Computrol.

He has two children, Mark and Debbie, who both now live in Boise with their families. After 42 years of working in the field of electronics, Ron retired in 2008. He enjoyed the great outdoors with his family. Hunting, fishing, camping, boating and biking were among his many adventures. He spent every weekend he could exploring the backcountry. He instilled in his family, and those who knew him best, the beauty God created and how to appreciate it. Ron is survived by his wife, his children and their spouses, a grandson, a step-grandchild and three great-step-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his sister and nephew who live in Wisconsin.

A Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Apostles Catholic Church, (6300 N. Meridian Road, Meridian, ID 83646) on Friday, April 21, at 1:30 p.m. Family would like to greet friends at the church at 1 p.m. Committal services with military honors will follow at 3 p.m. at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery, 10100 N. Horseshoe Bend Road, Boise, ID 83714.
