Roger L. Vavra, 77|
Nov. 12, 1939 — May 26, 2017
Roger L. Vavra of West Bend peacefully passed Friday, May 26, 2017. He was on Lake Winnebago, driving the boat of his dear friends, Carol and Dennis Winkel. His last words were, "What a beautiful day! We’ve waited for this day for over seven months." Roger was born in Milwaukee on Nov. 12, 1939, to Jerry and Eleanore Vavra. He was married to Judith (Christiansen) Vavra on Oct. 20, 1962.
He worked as an electrician for many years. He was a Jack of All Trades, Master of a Few. He was a dancer, captain, pilot, farmer, fisherman, builder of two planes, RC enthusiast, house builder, big sheepshead winner (according to him) and traveler who had a special place in his heart for the Southwest. He loved learning about ancient civilizations, Native American culture, sacred geometry and many other "interesting" subjects.
Roger lived by the golden rule and was always ready to help others. He served as the Dodge County EAA Flyers President, docent at the History Center of Washington County, Church Boys Club leader, bingo caller extraordinaire, and was quick to lend a hand whenever his family needed help for one of their volunteer projects. He is survived by his wife, Judy; children, Christine (Scott) Thomas and Mark (Eden) Vavra; beloved grandchildren, Samantha, Nicole, Reece and Ameilia; great-grandson, Wesley and Andres Mattie (father of Wesley). He is also survived by his brother, Ronald, brother- in-law, Nels (Susan) Christiansen, and other family members.
A celebration of a life well lived will be held Monday, June 5, at Lac Lawran Conservancy (Maurin Center) 300 Schmidt Road, West Bend, 53090.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to the time of the service at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please perform a Random Act of Kindness in Roger’s memory. Pass on the Love.
