R. Hammond, 75
Frank R. Hammond, 75, of Haw River, North Carolina, formerly of West Bend and Appleton, passed away Thursday, July 13, 2017, at Door County Medical Center in Sturgeon Bay.
Frank was born Dec. 8, 1941, in Fort Knox, Kentucky, to Howard and Helen (nee Hanson) Hammond and was raised in San Jose, California. The family moved to Hartford where Frank graduated from Hartford High School in 1960 and continued on to proudly serve in the U.S. Army in the 82nd Airborne division. Frank married LuAnn (Schmitt) in Hartford, later moving to West Bend. Frank was in sales and distribution of packaging supplies and moved to Appleton in 1988, where he was the owner/operator of Fox Valley Tapes and Packaging. He met Cynthia “Cindy” (nee Borchert formerly of Jackson) in Appleton and they were married June 6, 1998. After Frank’s retirement 10 years ago, the couple moved to North Carolina.
As a loving father, Frank took pride in raising his sons in West Bend where he was a scout master, Little League coach, and active member in the community. Frank’s family was very important to him. He loved traveling, which included taking road trips throughout the United States. Frank also enjoyed researching the genealogy of his family and traveled to many places to aid in those discoveries.
Frank was a member of the Fayetteville Chapter of the 82nd Airborne Association, American Legion, Mayflower Society, America’s First Families, SAR (Sons of American Revolution), Son of GAR (Grand Army of the Republic) in Wisconsin, current member of Elon Community Church UCC of Elon, North Carolina, past member of First Congregational UCC of Appleton, and St. Frances Cabrini of West Bend. Those Frank leaves behind to cherish his memory include his wife, Cindy; sons, Scott (Kelli) of Pittsboro, North Carolina, and Steven (Heather) of Sheboygan Falls; and granddaughters, Carolyn, Natalie, Elizabeth, Madeleine, and Grace. He is further survived by his brother, John (Denise) of Perth, Australia, other relatives, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held at 5:30 p.m. at New Hope United Church of Christ in Jackson (4360 Jackson Drive, Jackson, WI 53037) on Thursday, July 27, with the Rev. James Hill presiding. Frank’s family will greet relatives and friends at the church only Thursday, July 27, from 4 p.m. until the time of the service (5:30 p.m.). Memorials are appreciated to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
As a two-year lung cancer survivor, we extend a very special thank you to Dr. Janak Choksi and staff at Cone Health Cancer Center at Alamance Regional Medical Center in North Carolina. In addition, we would like to thank the staff at the Door County Medical Center in Sturgeon Bay for the compassionate care they provided to Frank and his family.
