Sarah Waters, 72 |
Feb. 22, 1945 — June 17, 2017
Sarah Waters, nee Marlene Schnepf of St. Petersburg, Florida, died Saturday, June 17, 2017, at Tampa General Hospital after an extended struggle with cancer.
Born in Port Washington on February 22, 1945, to Alex and Lorraine Schnepf, Sarah grew up in nearby West Bend where her father built the family home.
As a young girl, she took baton-twirling lessons and marched in a parade showing off her skills. She attended West Bend high school and was an excellent student while pursuing extracurricular activities, such as pompoms. She was on the prom court and was queen of the high school spring dance, the Mayball, where she earned the nickname “Queen Marlene.” In the mid ’60s she was a model for the West Bend Co. and appeared in their brochures and magazines.
She settled in LaPorte, Indiana, where she raised her five children while working in various professions including homemaking and real estate until retiring to the Tampa/St. Petersburg area of Florida.
Sarah loved spiritual and artistic pursuits and approached her endeavors with enthusiasm, poise and sophistication. Cooking and home making were great pleasures for her. She enjoyed talking and visiting with her children and sharing her inspirations with them, especially cooking and home improvement ideas.
She shared a close bond with her siblings and kept in touch with them regularly through calls, email and personal visits.
Sarah is survived by her five children, Tom, Jim, Deborah, Terry and Patrick; three grandchildren; her siblings, Mary Schnepf, Al Schnepf, Kathy Uebele, and Jean Coffey; and several other close relatives.
A memorial and burial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5, at the Old St. Mary’s Cemetery in West Bend. Friends and family are welcome to attend. A gathering will follow at Riverside Brewery and Restaurant, 255 S. Main St., West Bend.
