Franklin J. Friede, 85
June 7, 1932 ó Aug. 7, 2017
Franklin John Friede, 85, of Port Washington (formerly Cedarburg) passed away with family by his side at Lawlis Family Hospice in Mequon Monday Aug. 7.
Frank was born in Mequon on June 7, 1932, son of Reinhold and Lydia (Lemke) Friede.
He graduated from Cedarburg High School, where he enjoyed playing football as a Bulldog, he followed the team and went to the games up until a few years ago.
The best part of high school was meeting and marrying his high school sweetheart, Adell Verhaalen, Oct. 17, 1953.
Frank was an expert automobile mechanic his whole life, fulfilling his dream of running his own business, Friedeís Service. Many residents will remember Frank not only as an auto mechanic who fixed their cars, but the entrepreneur who rented and sold camping trailers and sold truck caps; he put together many pieces of wooden yard furniture that were sold and delivered. There were always U-Haul trucks and trailers available for people to move all over the local cities and throughout the 50 states. Toward the end of his career, he built trailers, which we still see being used as we see his Friedeís Service sticker on them.
Frank was involved with Town & Country 4-H and the First Immanuel Lutheran Church Menís Club for many years.
Frank is survived by four daughters and one son Diane (Randy) Yokes of Port Washington, Susan (Robert) Burmeister of Cedarburg, Cheryl (Scot) Hooper of Neunan Ga., Ellen (Raymond) Swanson of Grafton and Mark (Pamela) Friede of River Falls. He is further survived by 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Elroy (Ruth) Friede of Juneau; brother-in-law, Lloyd (Mary) Verhaalen; sister-in-law, Mabel Verhaalen; other relatives and friends.
Frank is preceded in death by wife Adell, with whom he was able to enjoy 40 years; parents Reinhold and Lydia Friede; sister Doris (Harvey) Fick; father and mother-in-law, Edward and Mabel Verhaalen; brother-in-law, Darwin Verhaalen; as well as other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, Aug. 12, 11 a.m. at First Immanuel Lutheran Church, W67 N622 Evergreen Blvd., Cedarburg. Interment Zur Ruhe Cemetery, Cedarburg. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.
