James H. Gilligan, 79
Nov. 26, 1937 — Aug. 12, 2017
James H. Gilligan of Hartford, passed away Saturday, Aug. 12, 2017, at the Aurora Grafton Medical Center with his loving family by his side. He courageously fought Parkinson’s disease for more than 15 years.
Jim was born Nov. 26, 1937, to Viola Heling in Wauwatosa. He served in the Wisconsin Army National Guard before working at Kraft Foods in Hartford. He was united in marriage to Doris Hetzel on July 19, 1975, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. Jim dedicated his professional life to DICO Inc. in Slinger, where he worked for more than 30 years as plant manager. While at DICO, Jim had a wonderful reputation of being one of the most fair and honest men to work for. Jim also held a board position at Harford Memorial Hospital and acted as President of the Board. He was also a member of the Slinger Rotary Club and sat on the board of the Hartford Recreation Department.
Jim was a very hard worker and always kept himself busy. He was very skilled with his hands and built his own cabin in Pembine with the help of his daughter. He loved to spend his weekends there, exploring the woods, driving his ATVs and snowmobiles, and fishing on the Menominee River. Jim also formed a rally racing team with his son and acted as crew chief, where he meticulously prepared cars and took them to events throughout the country. Jim was a very supportive father and grandpa, always spending time with family. His willingness to help anyone who needed it — family, friends, or just acquaintances — will never be forgotten.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Doris; loving children, Jean (John) Killoren of Hartford and Christopher (Amy) Gilligan of Huntersville, North Carolina; cherished grandchildren, Jacob Schafer, Josephine Killoren, and Samuel Gilligan; dear siblings, Karen (Roger) Fahey, Verla (Tony) Elsinger, Gloria Bebeau, and Mary Gilligan; and siblings-in-law, Larry (Lila) Hetzel of Hartford, Mark (Joan) Hetzel of Kewaskum, Patricia (Ronald) Winans and David Wise, of Hartford. He is further survived by loved nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard Gilligan; brother-in-law, Jerry Bebeau; parents-in-law, Hulda and Donald Hetzel; and sister-in-law, Lisa Wise.
