Gilbert “Stan” Stanowsky,
Longtime Cedarburg resident Gilbert “Stan” Stanowsky passed away at Lawlis Hospice in Mequon on Monday, Aug. 28, 2017, at the age of 88. He was born and raised in Milwaukee, the son of Roy and Catherine (nee Doll) Stanowsky Sr. While attending Washington High School he enlisted in the Marines at age 17. He was united in marriage to Leona Koepke on Oct. 10, 1953. After living briefly in Greendale, they moved to Cedarburg in 1962. Stan held several positions with the Milwaukee Transport Company, which operated the bus system in Milwaukee County. He retired from the Milwaukee Transport Company after 37 years of service. Stan was a devoted husband, an avid golfer and a big Packers and Brewers fan. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his wife Leona; daughters Kaye (Thomas) Kovacs of West Bend and Jane (Jeff) Bandurski of Mequon; grandchildren Kristen and Katie Bandurski; and his brother Roy Stanowsky Jr. Also survived by other relatives and friends.
There will be a Funeral Service at 3 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 1, 2017, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 701 Washington St., Grafton, WI 53024. Pastor Scott Kruse officiating. Private interment Zur Ruhe in Cedarburg. The family will greet relatives and friends at the Church on Friday from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Good Samaritan Fund at St. Paul Lutheran School or the American Red Cross, appreciated.
