Willard H. Kaun
Willard H. Kaun, 94, of West Bend, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2017, at the Aurora Medical Center in Hartford. The family is thankful for the compassionate care of Samaritan Health.
Willard was born Oct. 26, 1922, in Allenton, the son of the late William and Theresa (Emmer) Kaun. On July 25, 1950, he was united in marriage to Elaine L. Horst at the Little Brown Church in the Vale, Nashua, Iowa. Willard and Elaine were married for almost 66 years, making their home in West Bend. Elaine preceded Willard in death March 21, 2016.
Willard grew up on the family farm in the town of Addison and continued to be involved with farming throughout his life. He graduated from West Bend High School in 1940. In 1944, Willard entered the Army Air Force and served his country during World War II as a supply sergeant. He was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, during the bombing raids on Japan that ended the war in 1945. Following his service to his country, he worked as a machinist and in 1951 became an original employee of Weasler Engineering, where he retired in 1986.
Those Willard leaves behind to cherish his memory include his three children, Tom (Wendy) Kaun of New Lenox, Illinois, Kathleen (Randy) Gumm of West Bend, and Dan (Amy) Kaun of Racine; six grandchildren, Ben (Megan) Kaun of Santa Rosa, California, Stephen Kaun of Santa Barbara, California, Erica (Ryan) Schellhaas of Menomonee Falls, Kayla (Adam) Turgeon of Menomonee Falls, Ryan Kaun of Racine, and Michael
Kaun of Racine; five great-grandchildren, Jonas Kaun, Wrenna Kaun, Logan Schellhaas, Kylee Schellhaas, and Jesse Turgeon; a sister-in-law, Gloria Luedtke; 23 nieces and nephews; and other relatives and very dear friends.
In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by five sisters-in-law and spouses, Viola (Jim) Grady, Jeanette (Vincent) Hausmann, Florence (Elroy) Beilke, Laverne Horst, and Delores (George) Kraeuche; two brothers-in-law, Alfred Jr. (Pearl) Horst and Floyd Luedtke; and two nephews.
A funeral service in remembrance of Willard will be held at 11:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 16, at St. Johnís Lutheran Church (809 S. Sixth Ave., West Bend) with the Rev. David Kellerman officiating. Willardís family will greet relatives and friends Monday at the church from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service. A luncheon will follow the service with burial at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hartford.
