Glenn R. Winston, 82

Glenn R. Winston of Mequon passed away peacefully on Friday, Oct. 13, 2017, at the age of 82. He was born to Walter and Viola (nee Mickler) Winston on Aug. 19, 1935. He married Violet Bolm on June 30, 1956, and together they had two children.

Glenn was a proud veteran of the United States Navy. He volunteered at the Veterans Administration in Milwaukee. Glenn was a member of the Trinity Lutheran-Freistadt family for 44 years. He retired from the River Hills Police Department after 24 years of dedicated service. Glenn enjoyed hunting all over the world, including an African safari. He was an award-winning fly-tier and fished with Ernest Hemingway’s brother Leicester Hemingway on the Missouri River. Glenn appeared on the Outdoor Wisconsin television show and was known to the Flyfishing community as “Mr. Bead Head.”

Glenn is survived by his loving wife Violet; his children, Lori Winston Gaede and Jay (Jackie) Winston; grandson, Nicolas Gaede; brother Walter (Shirley) Winston; sisters-in-law, Leota Kastner and Helen Bolm. Other relatives and friends further survive him.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2017, at 1 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church-Freistadt (10729 W. Freistadt Road, Mequon, WI 53097) with Pastor Carl Lehenbauer presiding. Visitation will be at the CHURCH from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service.
