Walter E. Kremmel, 96
May 22, 1921 — Dec. 3, 2017

Walter E. Kremmel, of Mequon, Wis., passed away Sunday, Dec. 3, 2017, at age 96 at Lawlis Family Hospice, Mequon.

He was born in Millstadt, Ill., on May 22, 1921, the son of Ferdinand and Marie (Nolte) Kremmel, in the home in which his mother was born (1884) and which his grandfather built in 1850. He attended Valparaiso University from 1939 to 1941, and graduated from Purdue University in 1943 with a degree in electrical engineering.

Upon graduation, he moved to Milwaukee for his first job at Cutler Hammer. In 1948, he began a successful career with Wisconsin Electric Power Company, retiring in 1986. On a snowy day in April 1946, he married Janet A. Reese at Sherman Park Lutheran Church. They moved to a growing Thiensville in 1956, where they lovingly raised their family. Janet preceded him in death in July 1993. He married Holly D. Grassin on May 1, 1999, and together they began a happy and active marriage. He loved to golf and enjoyed many rounds at West Bend Country Club, where he served as Club President. A constant theme in his life was singing in choirs, beginning at Valparaiso University, continuing at Purdue University and in church choirs until he retired his bass voice after 75 years. Music brought him great joy.

He is survived by his wife, Holly Grassin-Kremmel; two children, Donn (Cathy) Kremmel and Karen (Gary) Gruenisen; four grandchildren, Kellie Kremmel, Jamie (Cody) Thompson, Timothy (Jennifer) Gruenisen and Lisa (David) Kloskin; and six great-grandchildren, Henry and Roan Thompson, Samantha, Adelynn, William and Matthew Gruenisen. Additionally, he is survived by a nephew, Robert Grosse. He will be missed by Holly’s daughters; Lynne (Dave), Bonni (Pat) and Heidi (Fred), other relatives and friends.

A Memorial Service, celebrating his life, will be held Sunday, Jan. 7, 2018, at 2 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, 303 Green Bay Road, Thiensville, WI.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, memorials may be made to either Grace Lutheran Church or Evans Scholars Foundation.
