Kenneth “Ken” Engel, 90, formerly of Milwaukee and West Bend, was called home to be with the Lord on Dec. 30, 2018, at Village at the Falls Retirement Community in Menomonee Falls surrounded by his loving family.
Ken was born May 15, 1928, in Milwaukee to Roman and Bertha Engel (Hoefer). He was united in marriage to Dolores P. Lyrenmann on March 11, 1950, at Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Milwaukee.
Ken graduated from Waukesha High School in 1947. He served his community as a Firefighter in the City of Milwaukee and retired in 1987 after 34 years of dedicated service. Ken was recording secretary of Milwaukee Firefighters Local 215 and was also past president of the Retired Fire and Police Association for 27 years. He was an avid bicyclist and enjoyed camping, fishing and the outdoors.
Those Ken leaves behind to cherish his memory include his wife of 68 years, Dolores; his two children, Michael (Mary) Engel and Cheryl (Thomas) Lemke; and three grandchildren, Sara Klatt, Alexander Engel and Austin Engel. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Ken was preceded in death by his brother, Theodore “Ted” (Marion) Engel. Funeral service for Ken will be held at noon Sunday, Jan. 6, at Myrhum Patten Miller Kietzer Funeral Home (1315 W. Washington St., West Bend, WI 53095). Inurnment at Washington County Memorial Park in West Bend.
Ken’s family will greet relatives and friends at the funeral home Sunday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
