Darlene D. Groeneveld, 86, of Celina, Ohio, passed away at 9:53 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 30, 2018, at the St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima. She was born Sept. 11, 1932, in Humboldt, South Dakota, to the late Ernest and Gertrude (Hanisch) Hoefert.
On March 23, 1952, she married Wilbur “Bill” E. Groeneveld, who died March 7, 2008.
Darlene is survived by her children, Kathy (Dan) Snider, Cindy (Kim) Gibbons and Sandy Monbeck (Joe Bey), all of Celina, and John (Renee) Groeneveld of Maryland Heights, Missouri; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; her two sisters and brother-in-law, Beverly (Clete) DeSmet of Larchwood, Iowa, and Barbara Viet of Mitchell, South Dakota; and her sister- in-law, Helen Hoefert of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Ernie Hoefert. Darlene was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Celina and The Round Robin Bridge Club. She was the Church secretary for several years. She loved to travel and enjoyed her gardening, reading a good book and solving a jig saw puzzle.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, at the St. John Lutheran Church in Celina, with Vicar Dan Gutman and the Rev. Douglas Meyer officiating. Burial will be, at the convenience of the family, in the North Grove Cemetery, Celina. The family will receive friends from 3-6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, at the Lehman-Dzendzel Funeral Home and from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Thursday morning at the Church.
