Raymond G. Zimdars passed away Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2019, at the age of 87. He was born June 10, 1931, in the town of Trenton to Arthur and Louisa (nee Unger) Zimdars. Ray was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Korean conflict from July 1951-April 1953 in the 32nd Infantry, Company G and received the Combat Infantry Badge, the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Star Campaign attachments, National Defense Service Metal, and United Nation’s Service Award.
On Sept. 3, 1975, Ray married Rosemary Sauer in Waukegan, Illinois. Ray retired from Tecumseh Products in Grafton after 35 years, was a lifetime member of the Newburg Sportsman Club and former member of the Newburg Fire Department.
His passions were fishing, hunting, trap shooting, he was an avid bowler, loved to play cards — especially cribbage and sheepshead — his trips to the casino, but loved to spend time with his family and friends.
Ray is survived by his wife, Rosemary; his children; Gail (Jerry) Keller and Allen (Diane) Zimdars; stepchildren, Wayne Flint, Susan Schneider and Cheryl (Curt) Hamlin; 10 grandchildren, Jason (Jolene) Hendrikse, Scott (Sara) Zimdars, David Flint, Victoria Kennedy, Amanda, Nicole and Stefanie Schneider, Austin Richter, and Bryce and Morgan Hamlin; eight great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Delores, Ruth and Debbie Sauer; nieces and nephews; his first wife, Kathryn Wester; and other relatives and friends. Ray was preceded in death by his parents; son, Charles; sister, Mabel and brother-in-law, Cliff Kuhaupt, and their son, David; son-in-law, Paul Richter; and three brothers- in-law, Edmund, Roman and Frank Sauer.
A funeral service for Ray will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13, at the Phillip Funeral Home Chapel, 1420 W. Paradise Drive, West Bend. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Sunday, Jan. 13, from 1 p.m. until the time of service.
