Rasma was born in Archangelsk, Russia, on April 2, 1919, daughter of Karlis and Jule (nee Ozols) Buziks. She grew up in Latvia, attending school and later graduating with her accounting degree. During World War II, she and her mother fled Latvia for Germany, and later Brazil, where she worked as a nanny.

Rasma came to America and settled in Milwaukee, where her mother later joined her. On May 6, 1961, Rasma was united in marriage with Evalds Brilts in Milwaukee. Evalds preceded Rasma in death in 1993.

In 2009, Mrs. Brilts moved to Cedarburg.

Mrs. Brilts was a member of Heritage Baptist Church; she was a very strong Christian and enjoyed Bible study and singing in church groups.

Rasma liked collecting keepsakes and traveling with her husband during his life. In her younger days, she also taught at a Latvian School in Milwaukee.
