Shirley A. Nelson (nee Horneck) of Grafton passed away on Sunday, Jan. 13, 2019, at the age of 82. Shirley was born on April 12, 1937, in Milwaukee, Wis., the daughter of the late Lester and Verna (nee Draheim) Horneck. Shirley was united in marriage to Jules Nelson on Aug. 4, 1956, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cedarburg. They were blessed with four children.
Shirley attended Cedarburg High School and graduated in 1954. Shirley took accounting classes. While her children were growing up, she held numerous part-time jobs: Gilbert Shoe Factory, News Graphic, Ozaukee Courthouse, Beck & Co. Shoe Shining, the health department at Woodview Elementary School and she finished her career at Grafton State Bank. Shirley was a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cedarburg and current member of Grace Lutheran Church in Grafton and was very active in both. Shirley enjoyed choir, teaching Sunday school, quilting, participating in Bible study and being a greeter. She also participated in the Ozaukee Chorus and enjoyed square dancing in her spare time.
Shirley is survived by her husband of 62 years, Jules; brother Richard (Carol) Horneck; daughters: Jodi Nelson, Lori (David) Overbye and Julie (Rick) Schuerman; grandchildren: Diane Overbye, Tyler Videkovich, Alex (Sonya) Videkovich and Troy (Sarah) Videkovich; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Shirley was preceded in death by her brother Lester Horneck Jr. and her son Robbie Lee Nelson.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, Jan. 18, 2019, at 6 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, 715 6th Ave., Grafton. Interment Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Crystal Falls, Mich. Visitation will be held on Friday at the church from 4 p.m. to 5:45 p.m.
