Gloria L. Mittag, 85 Gloria L. Mittag, 85, died peacefully at her Grafton home on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2019.

Mrs. Mittag was born in Milwaukee on April 1, 1933, to Paul and Agnes Anderson Shipley.

She graduated from North Division High School, and worked in Milwaukee at Square D Co. and Paul’s Restaurant, the family business.

Mrs. Mittag loved to go out dancing at the former Eagles Ballroom in Milwaukee, and at one of the dances she met Arthur Mittag. She loved telling the story of how she looked into his blue eyes and fell in love, and when she went home that night, she told her mother she met the man she wanted to marry.

The couple was married on May 1, 1954. Mr. Mittag died in 2003. The Mittags were owners of Art’s Sanitation Service and were members of Grace Lutheran Church in Grafton.

“My mother was very loving and had a strong faith in God because her grandfather was a missionary and minister in Canada,” her daughter Deb Mittag said.

Mrs. Mittag performed in the church choir, and she and her husband dedicated many hours working with the church’s quilting guild and serving as leaders of the Aid Association of Lutherans Branch at the church.

Mrs. Mittag is survived by her children Paul (Patti) of Random Lake, Deb Mittag of Grafton, John of Slinger, Carl of Dallas, Texas, Carol Mittag of Grafton and Joan (Lyman) Fischer of Plymouth; grandchildren Crystal (Bill) Mosher, Daniel and Derek (Carrie) Knepprath, Elijah Fischer, Jason (Michelle), Joshua, Jeremy (Amanda), Jacob (Falynn), Andrew and Zachary Mittag; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She is further survived by brother David (Lois) Shipley of Cedarburg, and sisters-in-law Marlene Persik of Sussex and Patt Shipley of Menomonee Falls.

Gloria’s last surviving sister, Diane Makowski of Franklin, passed away on the morning of Jan. 22.

Mrs. Mittag was preceded in death by her parents; siblings Joyce Blair, Grace Galloway and James Shipley; brothers-in-law Robert Blair, Donald Makowski and Thomas Persik.

A memorial service was held at Grace Lutheran Church in Grafton Tuesday, Jan. 22.

Memorials to Grace Lutheran Church Quilting Guild are suggested.
