William F. Rausch, ‘Bill,’ 91 William “Bill” Rausch, of Thiensville, passed away in the early morning hours of Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2019, at Lawlis Hospice in Mequon. He was 91 years old.

Bill was born in Milwaukee on July 26, 1927, son of Leo Rausch and Florence Birkholz Rausch. Bill grew up in Milwaukee. After high school, Bill served his country in the United States Army Air Corps. On Sept. 19, 1953, he married Kathleen “Pat” Kramer at St. Dominic’s Catholic Church in Marcy, Wis. Bill worked as a crew foreman for Wisconsin Electric (We Energies) for 41 years.

For over 60 years, Bill worked hard to keep the people of his community safe. After returning from the Army Air Corps, Bill joined the Thiensville Fire Department in 1949, rising through the ranks to chief in 1972. Chief Rausch served with distinction until his retirement in 2007. Bill was instrumental in Thiensville starting the first paramedic unit in Ozaukee County. He served as president of the Association of Ozaukee County Fire Departments, the Badger Firefighters Association and the Wisconsin State Fire Chiefs Association. He also served as the transportation manager for the Continental Youth Band, and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Bill is survived by his wife Pat of Thiensville, four children: William J. (Mary) Rausch of Thiensville, Peter (Laurie) Rausch of Cedarburg, Frederick (Carol) Rausch of Milwaukee and JoAnn (Daniel) Schulteis of Thiensville. He is further survived by six grandchildren: Heath, Sean, Nicholas, Benjamin, Cody (Sara) Schulteis and Brandon Schulteis, his sister Rosemary (the late Richard) Schorse of Fond du Lac, sister-in-law Rita (the late Leo) Rausch of Mequon, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and infant daughter, Suzanne.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, Feb. 18, at 6 p.m. at Lumen Christi Catholic Parish, 2750 N. Mequon Road, Mequon. Father Dan Sanders will preside over the Mass. Visitation will take place at the CHURCH Monday from 3:30 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. Bill will be entombed at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery, Mequon.
