James J. Plavec
March 8, 1944 — Feb. 23, 2019

James “Jim” J. Plavec passed away in the comfort of his home surrounded by family on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2019. He was born on March 8, 1944 ,to John and Mary Plavec (nee Krcil) in Tripp, S.D. James worked at Tecumseh Products in Grafton for 38 years, where he met the love of his life, Mary Evers. They married on Jan. 21, 1967, and resided in West Bend until 2004, when they retired to Berlin.

James enjoyed tinkering in his garage, woodworking, small-engine repair, fishing, camping, boating, and spending time with his grandchildren. James was an avid accordionist and button box musician, but his lifelong passion was Harley-Davidson motorcycles. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend.

James is survived by his wife, Mary; children, Mary Jo (William “Bill”) Schanen and Theresa “Terri” (Brian) Dahm; grandchildren, Joseph and Jennifer Schanen; sisters Leona MacFarland, Mary Wolf, and Gladys Plavec; brother, Michael (Mary) Plavec; and sisters-in-law Margret (Gary) Kasten and Darlene Plavec. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

James was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Plavec; siblings Frank, Robert, Joseph, Patricia, John; and brother-in-law Ed Evers.

There will be a funeral service for James on Sunday, March 3, at 1:00 p.m. at the Phillip Funeral Home Chapel, 1420 W. Paradise Drive, West Bend. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
