Lauder was diagnosed with mental illness at the age of 17. At the age of 20, Lauder was diagnosed with on set bi-polar disorder. Lauder lived on the streets, was hospitalized over 20 times and attempted suicide close to five times. Lauder wrote the book" The Why of Me" discussing her journey with her mental illness. In the last 15 years, Lauder has not had any sever symptoms. "Once you've been to Hell everything else is so delightful," said Lauder.
