Veteran Judy Pierce smiles as she begins to tell her stories of service on March 29, 2019 at her home in Hartford, Wis. Pierce will be going on the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight April 6. Pierce served with the United States Army Nurse Corps between 1966-68 while serving as the only woman in the operating room for 13 months in Korea. The West Bend Fire Department reported one person was home at the time of the fire in the three story duplex. Two cats were later rescued and no one or animal were injured. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Mekley was driving by when he stopped to see the water flowing. "My grandson plays baseball here," said Mekley.  The river flooded due to the increase rain this week and melting snow. A front loader was used to remove chunks of ice to give the water a place to flow. "I guess there's a new river channel now," joked Lt. Chuck Roethke of the Newburg Fire Department as he watched the water from the balcony of the fire department Friday. Roethke has been with the department for 25 years and has never seen the park flood like this. Roethke recalls flooding a few years back that was similar in size. The damage done to the park then was to the infields of the baseball diamonds, asphalt, lawn and fencing among other items.  "This is the worst I've seen it," said Roethke.
