He said it’s a good idea if  a customer has some idea of  what they’re looking for, if they have a brand preference and the phys- ical makeup of  their property. “A lot of  customers do have a brand pref- erence,” Rosenberg said. “They like easily recognized brands that they believe will last. It’s either that or a price preference.” Riding mowers are popular for various reasons, and Rosenberg said saving time is perhaps the biggest reason people will buy one. “If  you have more than one-third of  an acre, we’d recommend a riding mower. Although we do have some die-hards who get their exercise with a walk-behind mower, even if  they have a large lot,” he said. Rosenberg said newer self-propelled mowers have a wider mowing path than the ones in recent years – up to 30 inches – which is a significant increase over the predominant 21-inch path. “They’re designed more like commercial mowers,” he said.
